Tara Cemetery is located just outside of Tara, a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region of Queensland.

The Tara Cemetery Project is headed by Linda Petersen who with several volunteers has been uncovering stories and facts about the people interred in the cemetery. The project is proudly supported by the Tara Futures Group.

When the research on the Tara Cemetery began in the early 2000’s, everyone in the area believed the cemetery was started in 1913. However, by 2025 it became a proven fact, that if not the first person, Adelaide Elizabeth Bilson was one of the very first people to be buried in the Tara cemetery in 1911.

This is an ongoing project and as more names and information is discovered it will be added to the website.
