Notes – Mary Margaret Bates was the daughter of Alice Maud (nee Barraclough) and Edward Shandley of Salford, Lancashire in England.

At some point prior to 1916 the family moved to Australia and were living in Gladstone when Mary’s sister Edna Maud was born in 1916.

Mary Margaret Shandley married Charles Henry Bates on September 5, 1933. Sadly, the couple were only together for eighteen months before Mary passed away.

Mary lies in an unmarked grave.
