Notes – Sarah Jane was born to Mary Ellen (nee Lynch) and William Payne at Gobur, Victoria in 1892. She had ten siblings, Zillah Rosina 1885, Mary Anne 1886, George Joseph 1888, Charles Thomas 1890, Ellen Elsie 1894, Louisa Margaret 1896, William Edward 1898, Colonel Colonial Victor 1901, Zenobia Charlotte 1903 and John Francis 1905.
Her mother Mary Ellen died when Sarah was 14 years old, so she would have had to help raise her younger siblings as her youngest brother was only two when their mother passed.
The Payne family moved to Queensland in 1908 to Toowoomba and then around 1913 to Brigalow Creek (Meandarra). This may have been when Sarah met up with her future husband John Vincent Donnelly who worked for Mr Richard Meacle at Inglestone.
Sarah and John married on the 7th of May, 1913. They had two children, William Vincent 1914 and Irene Ellen 1917.
In 1916 John enlisted in WWI at Toowoomba. Sarah and the children stayed at Inglestone while he was serving. By 1934 Sarah and John had moved to Tara and were graziers.
Sarah appears on the rolls of 1919 to 1925 at Inglestone via Dalby with John Vincent, 1934 Sarah and John at Tara as graziers and 1943 at Garrow St, Dalby. Sarah moved to Dalby after the death of her husband in 1942.
The inscription on her headstone reads – In loving memory of Sarah Jane Donnelly Passed away 10th February, 1947.
