Notes – Jane was the daughter of Isabella (nee Johnston) and John McLeod and she was born around 1847 in Scotland. She was part of a large family and she is known to have had the following siblings, Susan, Agnes, Isabella, Peter and Margaret. Jane arrived in Australia in 1862 on the Moonlight with her parents and siblings.

Jane McLeod married Peter Grant in 1873 in Victoria. The couple were the parents of nine children: Isabella 1875, Peter 1876, John 1878, James 1880, Roland 1882, Alexander 1883, Gordon 1885, Jeannie 1888 and Mabel 1891. Two children died in infancy.

Peter Grant died in 1913 and is buried in Victoria. Jane moved to Tara with at least six of her children.

In 1915 Jane was living with Alexander, Ellie, Goron, John, Mabel and Peter at Bonnie Doon, Undulla Creek. In 1921 Jane was still listed on the rolls living with Ellie, Peter, John, Alexander, Gordon and Jeannie at Undulla Creek.

Jane was a highly respected member of the Tara community, as you can see from the attached obituary.

Jane has a headstone that reads – In loving memory of our dear mother Jane Grant native of Glasgow Scotland. Died Oct 31 1925. Aged 78 Years. I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live.
