Notes – Allan was born to Hannah May (nee Flood) and Henry Arthur Hale at Bethungra, New South Wales on the 4th January, 1884. His sibling were William, Henry, Alfred, Walter and George. His father died when he was just 6 yrs old.

Allan appears to have worked as a labourer his whole life. Allan Herbert Hale married Ethel May Smith (1889-1973) on the 30th December, 1908 at Chinchilla, Queensland. The couple had three girls Alice Elsie, Lily May and Grace Mary.

In 1933 there is a newspaper story of his daughter Addie competing in a Competition for the Ladys Quest. Read here. Addie could be a nickname for Alice or another daughter. She was working at the Tara Telephone exchange and was fond of tennis and playing music at dances, so this adds to the newspaper story on Allan Hale having been the doorman at the Tennis Club Dance.

His father-in-law Charles Smith, owned a sawmill at Weimbilla and baring a stint at the Morven sawmill in 1917, Allan lived and worked at Weimbilla near Tara.

Allan has a headstone on his grave and the inscription reads – In loving Memory of my dear husband and our father Allan Herbert Hale. Died 16th September, 1956 Aged 72 Years.
