Location – No 11 Anglican Section
Mother – Mary Elizabeth Longley (Broderick)
Father – John Fagan Lynas
Notes – John Robert was born to Mary Elizabeth Longley and John Fagan Lynas at Easington, England in 1924. He had one brother, Hugh Raymond who died when he was a year old in 1927. The small family left England in 1927, his father John was 36 and Mary was 40 and John Robert was 3.
Mary had two sons from her first marriage to Mr Broderick, Norman 12 yrs old and Thomas 10 years old, they were also on their way to Tara. John senior was listed as a miner. They arrived in Queensland on the 15th February, 1928 and moved to Tara in July 1929.
The family was still living at Tara at the time of John’s death. In 1930 John Snr was a labourer and Mary Home duties. Young John’s parents placed a thank you notice in the paper thanking the staff, doctor and Rev L Menear on their recent berevement. From that poor young John must have been ill for awhile.
I have been told by Normans daughter that John died aged 8 years, 1 month and 20 days. He died from Acute appendicitis and general Peritonitis. Poor little fella. John Fagan Lynas (who was a returned WWI digger) and Mary Elizabeth Lynas had a dairy farm by 1936 at Tara somewhere near Tullagrie. And in 1941 John was robbed and assulated at Warwick after going to the races and having a win. Three men were accused of getting stuck into him as he said and stealing 17 pounds.
By 1943 John Snr was back to being a labourer at Tara. There is a N Lynas playing Rugby in 1937 for the Tara side against the railway side to raise money for the new hospital. I have found out that this was young John’s half brother Norm Broderick.
LYNAS, John Robert has a headstone that reads – In loving memory of our dear son. John R Lynas. 1924 – 1932. At rest.
