McLEOD, Beatrice Margaret

Name – McLEOD, Beatrice Margaret
Born – 1887
Died – 11/01/1923
Location – No 7 Presbterian Section
Mother – Nancy Ann Hill
Father – Prosper Solomano

Notes – Beatrice Margaret was the daughter of Nancy Ann (nee Hill) and Prosper Solomano and she was born in Victoria in 1887. Her siblings were Linda, Harold, Frank, Stella and Nancy.

In 1909 Beatrice married Norman McLeod. The couple had two children, Colin 1909 and Nancy 1915. Betrice was on the census records of 1919 with Helena Ruby and Norman at Undulla Creek. By 1922 there were 17 McLeods on the roll in the Tara area.

The history of the McLeod and MacLeod families is very confusing. Helena Ruby married William MacLeod in 1915, but he enlisted in the First World War and died in France in 1916. Helena was the only other McLeod to be on the roll at Undulla Creek at the time and she was living with Beatrice and Norman. When Beatrice died, Helena and Norman appear to be living at the same address in Toowoomba. With the two different spellings of the surname it has been hard to track.

Beatrice has a headstone on her grave and the inscription reads: In loving memory of Beatrice Margaret McLeod Died 11th January, 1923 Aged 41 years.
