Notes – David was born to Ellen (nee Landreth) and David Pirnie in 1881 at Northumberland, England. He was one of five children, his siblings were Annie, Peter, Norman and Helen.

He arrived in Australia in 1915 on a ship called Time where he was working as a fireman. Prior to this David can be tracked sailing right around the southern coast of Australia and calling in at varying ports. In 1921 he was still working as a fireman on ships sailing from Australia to Fiji and other ports.

Not long after his arrival in Australia, he married Ethel Fox in Wickham in New South Wales. Ethel had been married before and had two children to her first husband, Alexander Pardy who died in 1914. David and Ethel had two children, Ian David and Marjory Jean Milburn. Ethel passed away in 1919 and there was no mention of what happened to his children after the death of their mother.

From 1928 to 1930 the electoral roll information shows he was living at 15 Herbert St, Brisbane and working as an ironworker. By 1958 his son Ian David Pirnie was marred to Dulcie Cecilla Graham and working as a stockman at Corella, Winton.

It was ironic that David suffered burns to his legs and feet in a fire at the Commercial Hotel in November 1929 when he had been working as a fireman for so many years as sea. Read here.

It is unknown if his injuries from the fire contributed to his death not long after.
