ROBERTS, Charles Frederick

Name – ROBERTS, Charles Frederick
Born – 15/12/1876
Died – 1/06/1946
Location – Number 79 Anglican Section
Mother – Jane Ockendon
Father – Peter Roberts

Notes – Charles was born to Peter and Jane (nee Ockendon) Roberts at Braidwood, N.S.W. He came from a large family with his siblings being Thomas, Walter, Emily, Mary, Peter, Henry, Emma, Lidia and William.  His father Peter died when Charles was 13 years old. Many of the siblings stayed around Braidwood.

Charles married Laura Pritchett on the 31st August, 1904 at Casino, N.S.W. His electoral roll records show him in 1913 at Happy Valley, Westbrook and from 1925 to 1943 at Culgaroo, Condamine, Tara, Undulla Creek. They only had the one child Thorburn.

Thornburn was living close by at the time of the death of Charles and Laura and only went to investigate when he saw his fathers milking cow still waiting to be milked at 7am. Poor man.

I have enclosed the newspaper articles which say it all. Apparently Charles had been to the doctors three times prior to their deaths for a nervous complaint. An article said that Thorburn and his mother were worried about what Charles might do to himself, so they disabled the gun. Charles was a farmer for his entire life.

Charles and Laura share a headstone – In Loving Memory of Charles Fredrick Roberts Died 2 June 1946 Aged 70 years.
