UNDERWOOD, Arthur Thomas
Name – UNDERWOOD, Arthur Thomas
Born – 1875
Died – 10/04/1938
Location – No 30 Anglican Section
Mother – Mary Elizabeth Clancy
Father – Richard George Underwood
Notes – Arthur Thomas was born to Mary Elizabeth (nee Clancy) and Richard George Underwood on the 25th June, 1875 at Balmain New South Wales. He was the oldest of seven children, Charles 1877, Mable Constance 1879, Ethel Elizabeth 1881, Richard 1882-1882, Richard Septimus 1884, and Florrie Louise 1886.
Arthur married Lucy Waratah Hart in 1914 at Kogan. The children from this couple were, Walter and Lucy, her married name was Dorrell and she lived next door to her parents. The son Alfred Walter lived at Undulla as well.
Two years before his death Arthur won first prize in the Golden Casket, this allowed he to purchase his property. He was very fond of sports and followed many games especially football.
The census records for Arthur are 1913 Westgate, Charleville labourer, 1915 and 1916 Myra labourer, 1928 Pelican farmer with Lucy, 1937 Kyneton, Bremar with Lucy and 1937 at Alkoombi Tara with Lucy and Alfred Walter.
He was only 57 years old, when he died from a heart attack. Arthur has a headstone that reads – In loving memory of A.T. Underwood. 1875 to 1938.
A point of intrest is that Arthur’s son Alfred Walter lived to be 100 years old and he is remembered along with his mother who died in 1973. The comment for Alfred was he remained a 100 year old larakin. Nice.
