Name – BARRETT, Laura Victoria
Born – 3/10/1916
Died – 23/07/1953
Location – No 46 Methodist Section
Mother – Annie Elizabeth Chappell
Father – William John Sharp
Notes – Laura Victoria Barrett was born in 1916 to Annie Elizabeth (nee Chappell) and William John Sharp. Laura lived at her parent’s farm Vickery Park and helped with the dairy farming around the McLeods Road area.
Laura first appeared on the roll in 1937 at Vickery Park, Tara with her parents and she was still listed on the 1949 roll at Vickery Park.
Laura Victoria Sharp married Walter Ludlow Barrett on March 3, 1941. Walter had enlisted in the Australian Army (Service number QX10369) in July 1940 and married Laura in March 1941 whilst he was on leave from Redbank before he was sent overseas to the Middle East. Laura is noted on his service file as his next of kin.
The couple were the parents of Grace, May, Irene and Keith. It appears Laura may have died of complications from child birth, as her son Keith died on July 13 having only been born on the 9th of July and Laura passed away ten days after Keith.
Laura is buried next to her father William John Sharp and her son Keith Allan Barrett. Her husband Walter is also buried in Tara Cemetery.
Laura Victoria Barrett has a headstone on her grave and the inscription reads – Laura Veronica Barrett 3.10.1916 to 23.7.1953 Loved wife of Walter. Dear mother of Grace, May and Irene.
