Notes – The following story of three cousins is particularly tragic and their story is well known in the Tara and surrounding district.  Mary Lucey Bligh and Kathleen Alice were the twin daughters of Richard William and Dorothy Maud Bligh. In 1937 the family were living at Goomni Blakeney and farming the land. By 1943 the family had moved to Sussex Downs near Moonie.

The twins and their younger sister Maureen were going to a dance at Meandarra with their cousin Kevin Stanislaus Bligh, when their vehicle hit a pothole, veered off the road and crashed. Maureen was the sole survivor. Her her twin sisters, Kathleen and Mary together with their cousin were killed instantly. They were obviously a very close group of young people who loved to socialise and attend local dances.

The three cousins share a headstone and the inscription reads – In loving Memory of our dear twin sisters & our brother & nephew. Kathleen Alice Bligh Aged 18 years, Mary Lucey Bligh Aged 18 years, Kevin Stanislaus Bligh Aged 22 years Accidently killed 9th June, 1951. Remembered by Alf.
