Notes – Jack was born at Kinkabilla, near Meandarra on the 23rd March, 1914 to Mary Elizabeth Charlotte (nee Hawkins) and James Herbert Morris. He came from a large family consisting of Mary who died as a baby, Margaret, James, Winnifred, Lilly and Herbert.
Jack was a keen sportsman and a good tennis player. In 1936, Jack married Elizabeth (Nelly) in Dalby. The census records for Jack were few due to his age. In 1936 he was at Red Hill, Hannaford working as a labourer. In 1937 the rolls show him at Red Hill and with Elizabeth at Tara.
Unfortunately, Jack suffered a very sad and painful death. Jack and his family were in a truck that became bogged, and while he was trying to push the truck out of the bog, his hand slipped and went through the glass cover of the headlight, cutting his hand and wrist. The newspaper article states that he left behind his wife Elizabeth and two children.
The headstone on his grave reads: In loving Memory of Jack William Henry Morris Died 4th March, 1939 Aged 25yrs.
