Notes – Annie Margaret McGrath was the daughter of Bridget (nee Keating) and William Henry McGrath. She married Walter Murphy in 1906 in Victoria. They had the following children – Margaret Harriet 1907, Thomas 1909, Mary 1911-1914, William 1913, Elizabeth 1916, Edward 1918-1942, Jim 1921, Francis John 1924 and Kathleen Ireen 1925.

From Electoral Rolls it appears that Annie and her husband Walter came to Tara on March 2, 1914. Walter was a farmer and Annie a housekeeper. In 1933 at the time of her death the Electoral Roll had the same information. Walter passed away on March 23, 1951 and he was still living at Tara. Annie and Walter are buried next to each other.

Her son Thomas stayed in the Tara area for life and was well known in the district. Her daughter Margaret (Maggie) married Walter Naughtin and they had three children. Both children, Thomas and Margaret, stayed in Tara for their whole lives. Her son Edward died in World War Two and her daughter Kathleen also served in World War Two.

Annie helped her farming family out as all wives of the day did, however she also ran a fruit and vegtable store in Tara for many years as is seen in her obituary.

Murphy, Annie Margaret has a headstone which reads –  In Loving Memory of Annie Murphy 1884 to 15.10.1933.
